Camping and Slovenia's Lake Bled - a cake made from a day's soggy driving, iced with a valley steamed by the sun

Sigh.

We seem to have been making some rather unfortunate decisions regarding camping locations vs which mountains to climb. I.e. they're not in the same place. Oh well.

The weather hasn't been treating us well of late. Intermittent rain making for some pretty soggy tents that had to be packed away wet when moving camp. This, coupled with the fact that Saroja's tent was a summer tent (mesh inside) made for some less than five star enjoyment to say the least!

Taking a literal rain-check on the hiking, we ended up deciding on a scenic day of driving as being the best course of action. Towards the classic Slovenian beauty of (lake) Bled town we drove, stopping along the way to add to the water quotient with a short walk around Tolmin gorge and waterfalls.

Time to make a short and soggy afternoon stop in Bled. Seems that even towns aren't much fun in the rain. Dang. And now we were a hell of a long way from our camp!

We ended up making an unscheduled overnight AirBnB stop in the small village of Bistrica, a few kilometres West of Bled. This saved us about four-five hours of driving back and forth between our camp in Kobarid in the Soca river valley. The start of our next day's hike was now only a fifteen minute drive away, instead of two+ hours. Yaaay. Much better. The rain even slowed down and blessed us with a pretty darn good vision of Alpine charm as the sun faded behind the mountains and the rain misted into the sky.
